Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies


SSBS Prayer Wheels The Buddhist path engages us in a balanced program of both practice and study. The Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies (SSBS) teaches the tenets of this path. The sources for these teachings come from three streams: the ancient Tibetan Buddhist lineages of the Nyingma and Kagyü, and the Shambhala teachings.

The program includes ten weekday evening courses, and six weekend programs. Courses are offered over two years, with two semesters per year: Semester One and Three in the fall, each consisting of two courses, and Semesters Two and Four in the winter/spring, each consisting of three courses. Courses generally consist of six Wednesday evening sessions and one half-day practice intensive.

Classes start at 7 pm with sitting meditation followed by a presentation and discussion. The cost for each course is $125 + required texts.

SSBS courses are progressive in nature, each building on the foundation established by the previous one. Therefore, it is necessary to begin the course of study in the fall with the first course, Taming the Mind, and complete the program in sequence. If you feel you have prior practice and study experience that qualifies you for mid-year entry, please contact our staff.
